1. Safety First

No more bedrooms in the hulls!

Following the tragic sinking of the Bayesian superyacht in Sicily in 2024, where owner and guests perished trapped down in the hull bedrooms, unable to escape up to the main deck and outside in time – things happen very quickly at sea - this surely brings the entire matter of owner and guest bedroom suites being located down in the hulls of yachts into question?

Would you sleep down in the hulls of a cruise ship or mega yacht if given the choice?

Ekokat shows why that outdated hull bedroom layouts can finally be left behind using a mixture of bold creative thinking, pure genius and innovation. There are also countless other benefits to avoiding hull-based cabins - something Ekokat proves with bold clarity.

large copy WOPRDS.jpg

Some of the larger power catamaran brands place the owner’s master bedroom suite at main deck level as do the smaller superyacht and larger monohulls brands, but this just blocks the forward view from the salon lounge behind.

If they are asked 'why do you put guest bedrooms down in the hulls of the boat?' the answer has always been ‘where else is there to put them, the main deck is used for the salon lounge’

IMAGINE IF THERE WAS A SOLUTION?

This is just one of EkoKat’s fundamental game-changing and industry transformational design shifts.

EkoKat Main Deck Living 'and' Sleeping Panoramic Views

EkoKat Introduces

The World's 1st dual-functioning Salon (lounge)

Luxury Penthouse Apartment by Day, transforms to Presidential Suites by night

Through an ingenious and innovative layout and voice activated electric wall system, the brand uses the main deck as a huge salon in the day-time, that it calls a luxury penthouse apartment with guaranteed sea view! and uses the exact same space at night as a luxury presidential Suite with up to 4 private and oversized soundproofed bedrooms.

The space is miraculously transformed in minutes and even during the daytime individual private rooms can be created for those wanting rest in the day or some quiet privacy.

The presidential suites are not only much larger than hull bedrooms with fantastic panoramic views over the ocean that help prevent sea sickness (sleeping down in the hulls with limited views of the horizon is one of the most common causes of motion sickness) but there are a host of other benefits to not having bedrooms in the hulls. Space to house Superyacht sized bathrooms, more space for solar batteries and extra sized crew rooms, and over USD1million saved in fit outs passed on to the buyer.

And when it comes to actually sleeping in your superyacht sized suite, introduce yourself here to Sleepkat - the most conformable sleeping experience on board any sub super yacht sized boat.

More Safety First

No more dangerous side decks

Another safety-related issue is the continued — and frankly, almost absurd — use of side decks on power catamarans. This legacy feature was traditionally presumed necessary for transiting between bow and stern. A power catamaran has a 'front door' inside the salon/lounge so given the safety aspect as well as the amount of interior and flybridge space lost by having them..

Yet, modern brands are now quietly widening these side decks to react to the obvious safety aspect, which reduces usable interior space — both in the salon and up on the flybridge. But let’s be honest: why not just use a front door? Attempting to scramble along narrow side decks at sea — especially after one too many glasses of champagne — is inherently dangerous.

They serve little to no purpose other than for stern-to docking and the occasional bow line retrieval… both of which Ekokat has solved with a unique, forward-thinking tool. So again — who really uses side decks? And more importantly, why sacrifice major living space just to keep them?

side decks.png

This simple cross section diagram show the amount of space lost in both the salon and on the flybridge above from having legacy side decks, and bedrooms in the hulls

….EkoKat have again made a simple but radical and logical decision and done away with side decks  altogether as power catamarans simply do not need them at all anyway.

Just use the front door in the middle of the forward salon or the staircase from the flybridge!

No side decks also provides privacy for occupants of the owners full beam master cabin

and their direct access to the lounge-on-The-Bow outside terrace

In the process, combined with the absence of hull bedrooms (that themselves steal valuable floor space from the salon above to create headroom below for bedrooms, meaning the furniture needs to be deceivingly moved inwards creating even less usable floor space, in the salon) have been able to provide 80ft+ power catamaran, and up to 120ft monohull salon and flybridge-sized usable space on boat their 62 ft yacht! It’s industry transformational!

That is DOUBLE the size salon and flybridge than competing 60ft power catamarans

2. Space on Board

Superyacht sized spaces on a 62ft yacht

As we know boating becomes addictive as it is not long before owners desire a bigger yacht, mainly to get more usable space in key main-deck and flybridge areas. Llogic dictates humans are used to living on land, and whilst a 40-50-60ft+ yacht may seem big at 1st and the best toy ever, the space constraints soon become realised and there is always a bigger boat next to you on anchor or in the marina.

Unfortunately this is never ending with yachts going up to 500ft these days and costing up to $½ billion Owner operators also lose the ability to drive and operate the boat themselves much above 65ft and the entire dynamic changes as well as the seemingly pocketless holes the upgrade exercise creates. So the trend these days is seeing brands come up with all sorts of design techniques to create more space on board, such as hydraulic folding down sides to create a little more space aft (which is fine as long as they don’t malfunction and get stuck down, which less face it they will do sooner or later) and they can’t be used when underway at sea. The Volume of boats have increased as well by simply have greater beam and height amongst other things, but there is a limit to this.

….EkoKat simply as no need for any of these things. She is a 62ft boat in length, suitable for owner operators if desired (and with 2 oversized crew cabins if not) that has the main-deck and flybridge usable spaces of monohull boats twice its length and that of power catamarans in excess of 80ft. The advantages of this are almost endless and too many to list here, but practicality is one.

With its ability to anchor in 2 metres of water and not damage its hulls or props if it touches the sandy sea bed, and even carry out beach landings, EkoKat is like parking a superyacht up at the beach! It really is the best of all worlds.

3. Yacht Prices
(and annual running costs)

Yachts are just too expensive for the mainstream these days. Do 50-100ft yachts really need to cost this much. Well unfortunately legacy brands still choosing to build in western Europe are forever feeling the pinch and many are appearing to go bust every few years. Sunseeker and Fairline being two victims in the last year alone.

How does EkoKat manage to charge half the price of competing size 60ft power catamarans (and have double the usable space on board), and as little as 1/4 the price of yachts with the same usable space and still maintain the highest build quality, branded quality parts and equipment?

Well for one, EkoKat saves well over $1 million alone as a downstream benefit to its attention to safety matters such as no hull bedroom fits outs, no side decks, and no unnecessary and even dangerous features such as over-engineered hydraulic bathing platforms for lowering tenders, that block views rear for guests and will sooner or later fail.

Secondly, gone are the days of ‘Built in China’ meaning poor quality. Providing the factory facility is aware of international standards, has the right workforce, quality control and shipping is in place, and the overseeing brand itself is from the West, with labour charges and factory leasing costs being 1/3rd – ¼ that of the west, the luxury EkoKat Voyage 62 can literally be built for 1/3rd the overall cost than if it were built in western Europe, and this includes the use of premium brand important equipment, much of which comes from Italy.

Price and Flybridge size comparisons

“The Ekokat 62W ($2.98m) will cost you HALF that of the competitor length Sunreef 60, and literally has DOUBLE the usable space in its salon and on its flybridge, not to mention the myriad of additional benefits and features of the yacht” says EkoKat’s CEO, an owner-operator of 50-60ft monohulls for 30 years, with practical experience at sea spanning 3 continents.

In seeking out the next yacht for himself and wife personally 3 years ago, side decks, bedrooms in the hulls and the prices simple made no sense so he set about taking a proven hull design shell (7 commissioned and proven so far), and with a solid team of naval architects, engineers (including a Mercedes F1 engineer), marine specialists, superyacht crew and handlers, and of course the factory itself, simply designed his own instead.

Deciding to call it EkoKat, it then received such overwhelming global acclaim, as a 3 decade entrepreneur decided an exclusive pedigree brand was in great need so deciding to make it available to other discerning yacht lovers (both owner operators and this that simply wish to enjoy them with crew), but on a strictly limited and exclusive basis. EkoKat was born.

“Our flybridge at a whopping 80sqm even tops the Sunreef 80 with its 64sqm flybridge and its 4x price tag in excess of Usd11m. It outdoes all monohulls pretty much with an example being the new Sunseeker 100 yacht which will cost you a tidy USD15m, and EkoKat even sits alongside the 130ft Sunseeker Predator yacht when it comes to flybridge and salon space and an owner’s full beam master cabin the same size (all guests sleep down in the hulls even on this yacht). It absurd but true”

Price Disrupters

So the word ‘price disrupters’ is an understatement for EkoKat. Why would you want to pay double, treble and even 4 times the price to have a yacht less practical and with less usable space on board?

“That’s a good question” says the CEO, “and I can’t think of an answer. In fact without sounding biased, if most of these larger length yachts were the same price I would still choose an Ekokat simply from the get-on and-go ability, also able to tuck myself away in tiny tight and idyllic anchorages next to the beach rather than park 100m out and come ashore by tender!

.… not forgetting EkoKat will also cost you 1/10th the annual running costs of some of these much larger 100ft+ yachts

Yacht Charter Market Disrupters

This Usable space 'v' yacht price basis also translates directly to the ever growing yacht charter market.  As an example a brand new Sunreef 60 (half the space on board) charters in the Caribbean/Bahamas for around usd 55-60,000 per week and the Sunreef 80 (still less space on board) is up at usd 95-100,000 per week. 100-120ft Monohulls with less or similar size usable space will cost in addition of usd 100,000 per week.

EkoKat on the other hand plans weekly charge rates down at usd 45,000 per week, and is all set to radically transform the charter market globally.

ROI?

Downstream benefits and reasons to consider an EkoKat just keep on flowing like champagne!

These radically lower yacht purchase and charter prices reflect directly onto the yacht owner looking for an ROI from their yacht purchase.

Having EkoKat Yacht Management manage your yacht and charter it when you are not using it, can see your annual running costs completely covered with as few as just three weeks charter per year, and if you choose to finance your yacht purchase on a 70% LTV basis, you are likely to cover your annual finance repayment as well, making your yacht available for charter for less than 8 weeks per year.

This can make a huge difference and give those with far less available cash to spend on a yacht suddenly in a position to buy an EkoKat when maybe they thought they could not!
